After double infanticide: mother can be questioned, children …

The woman who killed two of her three children in Hantes-Wihéries (Erquellines), Hainaut, can be questioned by the investigators today. Her condition is stable. This is evident from a press conference by Justice in Charleroi. The autopsy on the children has yet to take place, but the youngest victim is said to have died of drowning. The other two children had stab wounds in the neck.

The mother, who tried to kill herself, was in mortal danger on Tuesday evening. Now her condition would have improved, so that the police can start interrogation from today. That’s what Sandrine Vairon, prosecutor in Charleroi, said at a news conference.

Drowning

The mother killed two of her three children, ages 2 and 7, for an unknown reason. The autopsy and toxicological analysis have yet to take place, but at the press conference it was said that the youngest child died of drowning. The other died from stab wounds. It is not clear whether the children slept or were murdered in full consciousness. This is yet to become apparent from further research.

The family’s third child was also injured with a knife and is still in critical condition, but the 9-year-old’s condition has stabilized. The boy is in an artificial coma. It was her husband who discovered the facts when she returned from work. The woman had been with the man since 2008, and they had lived in Hantes-Wihéries for four years. They were both born in 1983. The father was interrogated, but this did not clarify much. Other family members will also be questioned, but little is known about the motive behind the family drama at this time. The family was unknown to the public prosecutor’s office and the police.
