After attack on police officers in Apolda: arrest warrant against perpetrators issued

After the attack on a police officer in Apolda, the 39-year-old suspected perpetrator has to be put into custody. The judge at the district court in Erfurt issued the arrest warrant for attempted murder, the police in Jena said on Sunday.

The man is accused of running over a police officer in Apolda on Thursday evening. The officers had stopped the man to check on him. According to information from MDR THÜRINGEN, he was put out to search for an earlier crime. The police officers in Apolda had thus recognized the man. The man rammed one of the policemen in his car, knocking him over. Then he drove the officer lying on the floor over his legs. The police officer was seriously injured. The perpetrator then fled with his car.

The perpetrator was arrested on Saturday by a police patrol in Jena-Closwitz. He was on foot and apparently wanted to go to his apartment in Jena, the police said on Sunday. The man’s car had already been found on Friday.

The 38-year-old police officer, injured in Apolda, is still in the hospital, it was said. He has now been transferred to a normal ward.
