After a year break, the Latvian Open Championship – Swimming – Sportacentrs.com will take place again

The Latvian Open Championship is a FINA-approved FINA World Championship qualification competition, which means that in addition to the Latvian Champion title, athletes will have the opportunity to compete for compliance with the World Championship qualification standards.

In the blue paths of the Ķīpsala swimming pool we will see both the leading athletes of our country with the Olympians Ieva Maluka, Gabriel Nikitin and Daniil Bobrov in the lead, and the strongest junior and young athletes of our country, as well as brilliant foreign swimming talents. Undoubtedly the brightest and most titled participant of this competition is Vladislav Grinev, whose career success includes both world and European championship bronze medals 100m br./st. swimming, as well as a place on this podium for the highest podium relay in the championship.

Chiara Tarantino, one of the members of the Italian national team, who has helped her country win silver prizes of 4x50m br./st. and 4x50m combined relays.

The championship in RTU Ķīpsala swimming pool will start on the morning of February 25 at 10:00 with preliminaries 50m br./h, 100m bras, 200m back, 100m butterfly and 400m br. In the evening program of the first day of the championship at At 17:00, spectators will be able to watch the fight for the first sets of championship medals.

Also in the next two days, on February 26 and 27, the participants of the championship will start according to the same system – in the morning fighting for the place in the top eight, but in the evening for the championship medals. In total, 32 sets of medals in individual distances and 8 sets of relay swimming will be distributed in the championship.

This time, the Latvian championship will take place behind closed doors, in accordance with the procedures specified in regulatory enactments, epidemiological safety measures, and only accredited persons will be allowed into them.

The live broadcast starts every day at 10:00 (preliminaries) and 17:00 (finals).

The previous Latvian championship was held in 2020, but last year the Latvian champions in the 50m swimming pool were not determined due to the restrictions set by Covid-19.

The competition is organized with the support of the Latvian Sports Federation Council and is co-financed from the state budget.
