After 5 years of removing it… Apple brings back an important feature for iPhone batteries!

A recent report revealed that the latest beta version of iOS 16, the developer version beta 5, which was released today, Apple has returned the battery percentage to the status bar, after removing it five years ago.

According to the report, the battery percentage was previously shown next to the battery icon, but it was removed in 2017 with the introduction of the notch in iPhones because there was not much room to crawl the percentage along with other information, and starting with iPhone X or iOS 12, users need to pull Control Center down to check battery percentage, but not anymore, at least for those using iOS 16 developer beta.

In the beta version of the iOS 16 developer, Apple put the battery percentage under the battery icon, but it is not enabled by default, and to enable it you will have to go to Settings, then Battery, and turn on the “Battery Percentage” switch, and you will see a slightly larger battery icon that shows you the current percentage for the battery.

Interestingly, it also changes color, when plugged in it turns green and shows a light and yellow icon when the iPhone is in low power mode, and adapts to light and dark mode, so the battery icon turns black in light mode and white in dark mode.

However, the option to see the battery percentage in the status bar is not available on iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini, and 13 mini.
