Affligebrouwerij moves from Opwijk to Limburg Alken: “With regret in the heart”

The 11 employees who work at the brewery in Opwijk have been informed in the meantime. “These are people with a very strong track record,” said the spokesperson. “If you look at all the awards they’ve won with Affligem beers in recent years, that’s a good indicator. Those are people we definitely want to keep on board.”

The brewer says it is confident that they can avoid layoffs. “That must now be discussed in all serenity with trade unions, management and the employees themselves.”

The farewell will not only be painful for the employees, but also for Opwijk himself. “This is goodbye to a very beautiful period. We are intertwined with the brewery, and the brewery is intertwined with Opwijk and all Opwijk residents. So it is really with regret in the heart.”

In August 2022, the brewery will close its doors in Opwijk for good. She is looking at what will happen to the property with the municipality.
