Berlin Court Orders AfD to Vacate Federal Office by 2026
BERLIN – The Berlin Regional Court ruled today, september 26, 2025, that the Alternative for Germany (AfD) must vacate its federal office in the wittenau district by October 30, 2026. The decision stems from a dispute with the Austrian ownership company of the property, which terminated the lease without notice, alleging violations of lease specifications.
The ruling impacts the AfD’s operations in Berlin, forcing the party to relocate its headquarters. While the AfD offered to extend the lease until 2026 with a six percent rent increase, the landlord rejected the proposal and did not present a counter-offer. This legal battle underscores growing tensions between the party and property owners, and highlights the challenges the AfD faces in securing long-term office space in the capital.
The AfD has occupied the building in the Wittenau district since 2022,operating under three separate rental agreements initially set to expire at the end of September,November, and December 2027. However, the contracts included provisions for special termination rights, which the Austrian investor ultimately invoked.
According to AfD federal Spokesman and member of the Bundestag Kay Gottschalk, the termination was “a purely economic argument.” A final attempt at negotiation between the landlord and AfD representatives failed last week, paving the way for today’s court decision.
