Aeromexico and LATAM in codeshare to the USA?

Airlines Aeromexico and LATAM Airlines Group have requested the necessary authorizations for passengers of the second to fly on our routes from the first in Mexico and United States.

Already united by a codeshare agreement covering routes in Latin America, the Mexican national carrier has asked the DoT for permission to display the code THE of the LATAM group “on flights it operates from points located beyond Mexico, via Mexico, to all destinations in the United States”. More specifically, this agreement would cover the traffic of the South American group between Chile and the USA ; LATAM will therefore not market Aeromexico flights between Mexico and its northern neighbor.

Our routes operated by Aeromexico from the airport of Mexico would initially be covered by the codeshare agreement: to Chicago (ORD), Denver (DEN), Houston (IAH), Las Vegas (LAS), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), New York JFK Kennedy ( JFK), Orlando (MCO), San Antonio (SAT), San Francisco (SFO) and Seattle (SEA).

LATAM Chile (ex-LAN Airlines) serves direct from Santiago du Chili Los Angeles, Miami and New York-JFK airports (plus Mexico of course).

As of last November, passengers of the South American group have had access to 39 destinations across Mexico and beyond, while the Mexican airline’s network of the alliance SkyTeam has been extended to 14 destinations in Colombia and 40 in Brazil. LATAM has also announced its intention to move to Terminal 2 in Mexico City (MEX), from where Aeromexico operates.

It should be remembered that the two groups took protection against creditors in the United States, received public aid and began a restructuring which will see them emerge smaller from the health crisis.
