Advice Outbreak Management Team: extend ‘evening lockdown’, cabinet still has to decide

The Outbreak Management Team believes that the current corona measures should be extended. That means no exception to the maximum number of guests at home at Christmas, sources say to the NOS. The possibility of an expansion before Christmas is being suggested behind the scenes.

The experts of the OMT yesterday prepared an advice for the cabinet, which will be discussed tomorrow with the relevant ministers in the Catshuis.

Omicron variant

Although the number of new infections has decreased in recent days, the pressure on healthcare is still very high. The OMT does not consider it necessary to introduce stricter measures, but according to the experts, there is also no room for relaxation, partly due to the uncertainty surrounding the omikron variant.

Culture Minister Van Engelshoven also hinted yesterday that relaxations not are in line with expectations. The day before, Minister Slob for Education said that the cabinet is committed to keeping schools open around the Christmas holidays.

The current ‘evening lockdown’ applies until Saturday 18 December. There will be a press conference about the sequel next Tuesday.
