After having watched too much Sex and the City and recounting the setbacks of a future bride promised to a repressed homosexual in the disreputable Should not tell him, the Belgian director Solange Sicurel tells here the story of a divorced forty-something who tries to keep her fifteen year old daughter on the right path. All this, of course, at the cost of some nervous breakdowns …
Already, the title announces the program: Adorables! Apparently there would be a play on words to discover. Something between “Ado” like “Adolescent”, then (more difficult), “devils”. And the association of the two words should lead to “Adorables”. The little verbal game is laborious and much like a somewhat heavy comedy on mother-daughter relationships. The film is too anecdotal to be relevant, not crazy enough to make people laugh but sufficiently well interpreted to arouse any semblance of interest.
