Adler Mannheim with an easy opening win – SWR Sport

Master Adler Mannheim started the new season of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) with a clear success.

The team of coach Pavel Gross won 5: 1 (3: 0, 1: 1, 1: 0) against the Nürnberg Ice Tigers and thus sat at the top of the table in Group South. The goals for the Adler were scored by Tommi Huhtala (15th), Matthias Plachta (16th), Björn Krupp (18th), Benjamin Smith (25th) and David Wolf (45th). The 19-year-old John-Magnus Broda (36th), who is on loan from Mannheim to Nuremberg, met for the guests.

Adler Mannheim reported three departures before the game

The Adler had previously reported three departures. Loaned international strikers Lean Bergmann (San Jose Sharks) and Marc Michaelis (Vancouver Canucks) have been ordered back from their clubs to North America, defender Chad Billins (USA) is leaving Mannheim at his own request.

After being postponed twice due to the corona pandemic, the season will be played in two regional groups in order to reduce travel costs and the risk of infection. Instead of 52 games, each club ideally has 38 games if there are no game cancellations due to corona cases. The play-offs are not played in the “best of seven” mode as usual, but in a maximum of three matches per round.
