It is probably a date that many students are already looking forward to with stomach ache: March 8th. Thousands of examinees will then gather again to take the central entrance examination for the Gymnasium (ZAP). The coronavirus already messed up the exam last year – the Federal Council decided on various restrictions shortly before the exam date. The 9,000 or so students were able to take the exam at a distance and spread across different rooms.
The authorities are prepared for this this year, but it remains unknown how the homeschooling of the past year affected the performance of high school students. It is already clear that the exam will not be any easier.
Adjust the correction scheme afterwards
“We see no reason to do a simpler test”, says Roland Lüthi, coordinator of the entrance examination to the “Regionaljournal SRF ». They simply don’t know which children got through the crises and how. In other words, has algebra suffered more than spelling in homeschooling?
Nevertheless, according to Lüthi, the difficult situation is taken into account. The teachers who correct the exams will exchange ideas. “When we see that practically all children were unable to complete a task across the board, it makes little sense that we stick with the old correction scheme.” According to Lüthi, the subsequent adjustment of the correction scheme could take into account that certain school material was omitted due to Corona.
Stress for teachers too
The exam is not only a challenge for students, the teachers are also challenged. “It’s stressful, but we are aware that we have to look carefully,” Lüthi told the radio. It was a difficult year and after all it was about the children and the young people.
