Add One Group, CDC Call Pregnant Women Have a Higher Risk of Suffering from Severe Covid-19 Disease – All Pages

GridHEALTH.id – If previously the elderly aka the elderly and people with concomitant diseases are the group of people who are at higher risk for terminally ill from Covid-19, now the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated the list of groups again.

The new addition is a pregnant woman with Covid-19.

Where pregnant women with Covid-19 have a higher risk of being hospitalized and ending up in intensive care units than women who are not pregnant, the CDC said.

Until very recently, the effect of Covid-19 on pregnant women and birth outcomes was a mystery because there wasn’t much great research on the topic.

Pregnancy causes changes in the immune and respiratory system, which has led to speculation that pregnant women may be more susceptible to disease.

Reporting from ABC News, for about six months, the CDC received more than 325,000 reports of women aged 15 to 44 who had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that caused Covid-19. Of that amount, more than 8,200 are pregnant.

When the CDC sees how well these women do it, they find good news and bad news.

The good news is that pregnant women are no more likely to die of Covid-19 than other groups.

While the bad news is that they seem more likely to become very ill, and even become hospitalized once they are infected.

In particular, pregnant women were 5.4 times more likely to be hospitalized, 1.5 times more likely to be treated in the ICU and 1.7 times more likely to use a ventilator.

However, the CDC says that these results must be interpreted with caution, because it is possible that some of these women were hospitalized because of problems related to their pregnancy and not necessarily Covid-19.

Although the symptoms are worse in pregnant women with Covid-19, there is no difference in the risk of death between pregnant and non-pregnant women with Covid-19.

As is known, 0.2% of deaths occur in both groups.

In this regard, Director Robert Redfield said that the CDC recommends anyone at higher risk for complications from Covid-19 limit contact with others as much as possible.

“We think it is important to get information out there that pregnant women need to take precautionary measures,” Dana Meaney-Delman, deputy manager of Covid-19 CDV incidents, was quoted as saying by Hindustan times.

However, the agency could not assess the impact of the corona virus on fetuses or babies born to women with Covid-19, but he said he “would not be surprised” if they were at higher risk for preterm birth.
