On Thursday, the Bernau city council will decide on the budget for 2021. A new multi-purpose hall in the Ladeburg triangle, a new daycare center, a parking garage at the S-Bahn station in Friedenstahl worth five million euros and the construction of the Panketal recreation park: the Bernau budget sees around 50 Million euros in new investments by the end of 2022.
André Stahl (Linke), Mayor of the city, is confident that this will be manageable for the currently debt-free city even without loans.
Among other things, the strategy for adaptation to climate change will also be discussed. Bernau is also subject to the consequences of climate change, for example from prolonged heavy rain and dry periods. The climate adaptation strategy presented to the Bernau city council reacts to this. It is a broad-based catalog of measures, a kind of guideline for urban development in Bern. The greening of surfaces such as roofs plays an important role here. Other points are water protection, the reforestation of forests and the improvement of the city administration’s climate management.
