Idah Reveals Initial Reluctance to Leave Celtic Before Swansea Move
Republic of Ireland striker Adam Idah has disclosed he initially intended to remain at Celtic despite completing a deadline-day transfer to Swansea City. The 24-year-old forward, who spent 18 months with the Scottish champions, ultimately decided a move to Wales offered a compelling possibility for increased playing time and a fresh start.
Idah’s departure from Celtic follows a prosperous period where he secured two Scottish league titles, a League Cup, and a Scottish Cup victory – scoring a late goal to win the latter during a loan spell. He amassed 29 goals in 76 appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ side, though acknowledged the intense pressure and scrutiny that came with playing for such a prominent club. “At first, I didn’t want to leave. I wanted to fight for my spot. I wanted to do well there,” Idah stated.
Despite his successes,Idah admitted the experience at Celtic could be a “torture” when form dipped, contrasting sharply with moments when it felt like “the best place ever.” He highlighted the high expectations and potential for criticism, stating, ”it can be tough, you get a lot of hate. You might have a bad game and it’s torture.”
Though, Idah emphasized his positive overall experience with Celtic, calling it “an amazing experience” and a “really proud moment” in his career. He also pointed to his goal-scoring record, noting he scored 20 goals last season “coming off the bench,” a contribution he felt went largely unnoticed.
Ultimately, the appeal of Swansea’s “great project” and familiarity with some of the club’s staff proved decisive. “Swansea have a great project and I know some of the staff there. what they think I can bring to the team is something I want to go and do,” Idah explained. He confirmed positive discussions with Celtic staff led to a mutual agreement that the move was the right step for his career.
