Rising Star’s Past Drug Allegations Resurface as He Joins Bong Joon-ho Project
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – A young actor, recently cast in an upcoming film directed by Academy Award-winner Bong Joon-ho, is facing renewed scrutiny following the resurfacing of past legal troubles involving drug allegations. The actor, identified only as “the infant” in initial reports, received a commuted sentence after being arrested for alleged drug management,a case that drew significant public attention last year.
The controversy arrives as the actor prepares for a high-profile role alongside Bong, director of Parasite and Snowpiercer, raising questions about casting decisions and the entertainment industry’s handling of past offenses. The case, initially resolved with a five-month imprisonment followed by commutation, involved accusations of drug use and conflicting testimony from a former hair stylist and YouTube creator, Hairmon.
In April of last year, Hairmon testified as a witness in the actor’s trial, claiming the actor was invited to smoke hemp. The actor denied the allegations, and Hairmon was ultimately fined 5 million won (approximately $3,700 USD) and ordered to complete 40 hours of pharmacist rehabilitation education in October. The court cited Hairmon’s lack of cooperation with the investigation, inconsistent statements, and evidence of habitual smoking, while noting the amount of hemp involved was not substantial.
the Appeals Tribunal granted the actor’s commutation, citing long-term struggles with sleep disorders and depression, and acknowledging “deep reflection” during his imprisonment. This ruling was upheld by the supreme Court in July. Following a police investigation into the allegations, the actor posted an apology on social media.
Hairmon has since resumed his YouTube activities, actively engaging with fans since March of last year. The actor’s casting in Bong Joon-ho’s new project has reignited discussion surrounding the case and the potential impact of past legal issues on an artist’s career. further details regarding the film and the actor’s role have not yet been released.
