This afternoon we received the unfortunate news of the death of the outstanding actor Rubén Breña Ríos, a high-level artist, admired and loved by the public who will always remember him in his dissimilar roles on Cuban television and cinema.
Rubén Breña graduated in 1970 from the National School of Theater Direction and went on to join the Zafarrancho groups and later Trotamundos, directed by Pedro Álvarez and Verónica Lynn.
In his theatrical work he was immersed in works such as The best of the buffo, The thousand and one guajira nights, the cross-eyed, to 100 yearsdirected by Flora Lauten, From the blood the seedstaged by Tito Junco among other stagings where he alternated leading and secondary roles.
His presence in the television media has been marked by his roles in the serials When the water returns to the land o the taboojust to mention the best known.
The soap opera space featured this man of acting in titles such as: wild land, if you could love me, to the beat of the sound, longed for meeting, forbidden destination, fire stories, Go out at night and many others.
In the cinema, he also embodied dissimilar roles in feature films Guantanamera, Amor vertical, Constantinople nights, scent oak, Mambí, Waiting list, habanece… among other co-productions of the national filmography.
Rubén Breña holds the Male Performance Award on Television (2001). Winner of the Contest of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (2001). He was awarded the Mariposa Award for the telenovela wild land as well as the Television Festival Award for the telenovela to the beat of the sound (2005). He received the ACTUAR Award for the Work of Life in 2019 and Cuban Television honored him with the Small Screen Award in 2021, an important award given by this medium.
The remains of the renowned actor will be cremated by family decision in a personal ceremony. Any other decision will be informed in a timely manner. May our deepest condolences reach his family and friends on behalf of the performing artists and all the Cuban people who will always have him in their memory.
