“On Wednesday, November 4, the actor Jan Kučera left us forever, playing more than a respectable hundred roles in our theater during the long forty seasons he spent here,” said Kateřina Vižďová, a spokeswoman for the Brno City Theater.
Jan Kučera (real name Jan Heger) was born on October 18, 1941. Already during his studies at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno, he threw himself into drama, in Haškov Švejk he even played several characters in the early 1960s.
“In 1964, he successfully completed his studies, and in the same year he became a member of the Julius Fučík Theater, which operated its theater hall at the Brno Exhibition Grounds,” said Vižďová. In the South Moravian metropolis, he played a respectable 40 seasons on the stage and played serious and comic characters.
Although Kučera retired in 2004, he was still a guest in some performances. “Among these roles, we can mention, for example, The Doctor in the musical West Side Story or the Jew in the musical ballad Koločava.
Kučera has also appeared in several television films and series – for example in several episodes of Detective Martin Tomsa. At the end of June this year, he took part in the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Brno City Theater.
