Actor David Gulpilil has died – Novinky.cz

“I share with deep sorrow the news of the death of the iconic and unique artist in South Australia who made the history of Australian film and represented the original people on the screen – David Gulpilil Ridjimiraril Dalaithngu,” Marshall said.

Gulpilil, who was diagnosed with lung cancer by doctors four years ago, came from the Mandhalping clan of Australia’s indigenous people, Yolŋu. In the world, he became best known during his 50-year career as Neville Bell in Crocodile Dundee. He also starred in Charlie’s Land, Goldstone, The Last Wave, Journey and The Boy and the Pelican.

The Guardian wrote about him in March of this year as a titan of Australian cinema.

His last film was biographical and is called My Name is Gulpilil. It was released at the beginning of this year and there were growing fears that the actor would not even live to see it finished. “But in the end, no one was surprised that at the premiere, David performed in front of the audience and received a standing ovation,” Marshall said.

Doctors diagnosed lung cancer at the beginning of 2017 and gave it only six months in their prognosis.
