Gulpilil, who was diagnosed with lung cancer by doctors four years ago, came from the Mandhalping clan of Australia’s indigenous people, Yolŋu. In the world, he became best known during his 50-year career as Neville Bell in Crocodile Dundee. He also starred in Charlie’s Land, Goldstone, The Last Wave, Journey and The Boy and the Pelican.
