Activist Dalila Touat files a complaint for threats and ill-treatment in prison

Activist Dalila Touat lodged a complaint for intimidation, threat and ill-treatment suffered in prison. This is what the French-language newspaper Liberté reports in its edition of Saturday, March 27. “The bad treatment concerns the non-medical follow-up of my hunger strike”, explains the ex-detainee in a post on social networks.

By bringing the case to justice, Dalila Touat, who recently regained her freedom, indicates “wanting to put everyone before their conscience and their responsibilities”. She denounces her conditions of detention in the prison of Aïn Tedlès, in Mostaganem.

“On two occasions, I had to go on a hunger strike to protest the humiliations. At no time did the prison administration see fit to send a doctor to inquire about my health, ”she protested. The human rights activist had spent a month in prison before being released on bail.

In January, while she was still in prison, Dalila Touat decided to start a hunger strike to denounce the conditions of her imprisonment. In February, the teacher finally benefited from the presidential decision to pardon permanently convicted Hirak detainees and to provisionally release those awaiting trial and those convicted at first instance.

On March 17, the Court of Appeal of the wilaya of Mostaganem sentenced the activist to two months in prison with a 20,000 dinar fine. The human rights activist has thus seen her two previous sentences significantly reduced.

She was sentenced to two years in prison in November 2020 for disrupting the Referendum on the Constitution and contempt of an official. Last January, she will be sentenced to 18 months in prison and a fine of 10 million centimes for “insulting officials and state institutions”, “defamation” and “publications undermining public order”.
