Good news for garlic producers in Tarn-et-Garonne, hit hard by last summer’s drought. The prefecture of Montauban has just triggered the agricultural disaster procedure.

State support

So it’s official since this Friday. The agricultural disaster procedure has come into force for garlic production in Tarn-et-Garonne, victim of the drought in the summer of 2022. A drought that caused damage from Waxi, this physiological disorder that generates stress for the plant and does not allow the garlic cloves to mature.

30% losses in 2022

The drought in the summer of 2022 had a strong impact on garlic production in Tarn-et-Garonne. For most farmers, losses were assessed at 30%. They will therefore be able to file their claims for compensation as of Monday, March 27.

Be careful, however, to be eligible, garlic production losses must exceed 30% of theoretical overall production. Claims for compensation must be completed by April 24, 2023. .

The Tarn already concerned

The agricultural disaster procedure had already been triggered in December 2022 in the Tarn department, still following the summer drought.

In the Tarn, these measures concerned fodder and garlic for consumption. During the summer of 2022, farmers had on average lost 38% grassland and 43% fodder (fodder maize, fodder sorghum, meslin), intended to feed their animals.
