According to Seymour Hersh, the US fabricated a phony account of the Nord Stream explosions for the press.

American journalist Seymour Hersh claims that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz discussed the explosions on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines with US President Joe Biden during a visit to Washington in March. This is stated in the new publications titled “The cover-up” on the journalist’s blog. He refers to an unnamed source who allegedly has “access to diplomatic information.”

According to him, after this conversation, “certain elements” in the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) were offered by the United States, in cooperation with German intelligence, to “prepare a cover story” for the explosions in the media, presenting an “alternative version” of the destruction of gas pipelines. “According to the intelligence community, the agency (CIA.— “uh”) was supposed to “boost the system” to disprove the claim that Biden ordered the destruction of the pipelines,” the blog states.

The explosions at Nord Stream and the uncommissioned Nord Stream 2 occurred on September 26, 2022. Russia considers them acts of international terrorism. In February 2023, journalist Seymour Hersh published How America Destroyed the Nord Stream Gas Pipeline. It claimed, citing one source “with direct knowledge of operational planning,” that the bombings were a covert US operation. Washington called the publication a lie.

In March, The New York Times, citing intelligence, reported that the explosions at Nord Stream were staged by a pro-Ukrainian group. According to The Times, the private sponsor could be a citizen of Ukraine who is not associated with the government of Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Wall Street Journal wrote that the CIA warned European countries in the summer of 2022 about a possible terrorist attack.
