Emergency services complain about illegal parking, garbage pollution, aggressive behavior by beach visitors and alcohol abuse at high temperatures.
Despite the corona pandemic, tens of thousands of Britons stormed the coast in the south of their country on Thursday. In Bournemouth, the forces even had to trigger a “serious incident” because the situation was no longer manageable. This gives the emergency services more rights and coordination options.
Such crowds otherwise only existed on public holidays, city officials said. “We are absolutely horrified by the scenes that have been seen on our beaches … in the past 24 to 48 hours.” Emergency services complained about illegal parking, traffic collapse, garbage pollution, aggressive behavior of beach visitors and alcohol abuse at high temperatures.
Thursday was the hottest day of the year in England so far. In the afternoon, over 33 degrees were measured at the London Heathrow airport.
Day trips are allowed within England even in the Corona crisis. Among other things, it draws people from the metropolis of London to the coast. Britain is the worst pandemic country in Europe.
