Abrams is beaten in the senate for his failures in Venezuela

The United States special envoy for Venezuela, Elliott Abrams, attended a hearing on Tuesday in the Senate Foreign Committee, where he was criticized for the failures of foreign policy towards the Venezuelan nation.

Republican Mitt Rummy and the Democrats did not hide their annoyance, considering that the strategy used towards Venezuela by the Donald Trump administration has put the United States at an unprecedented diplomatic and political crossroads in the North American nation.

“We must make it clear that our policy towards Venezuela in the last year and a half has been an absolute disaster and if we are not honest about it we cannot correct anything,” said Democratic Senator Chris Murphy.

He recognized the recognition of Juan Guaidó as a bad move, which he recalled has no power space within the country’s institutional structure.

“Our great move,” he added, “to recognize Guaidó from the beginning and to move quickly to the imposition of sanctions has not worked. The only thing he has done is strengthen the Cuban and Russian move in Venezuela and has allowed Maduro to paint Guaidó as a scapegoat for the United States, “he said.

This legislative reprimand against Abrams arose after he insisted on the need to continue the policy of “pressure” against Venezuela and of “support for Guaidó” whom he said will be recognized as “president in charge” regardless of the results of the legislative elections that constitutionally correspond to this year and that will take place on December 6.

“Obviously we hope that he (Maduro) will not survive the year and we are working hard to make that happen,” said Abrams, who after these words would be criticized for his failed actions.
