The 100 million dollar yacht supports Koru, a 500 million dollar sailing ship: it is 75 meters long and is an authentic floating garage that carries a helicopter, cars and other boats
We had left Jeff Bezos – founder of Amazon and third richest man in the world for Forbesfor the few who don’t know him – grappling with the tiring launch of Koru, the three-masted 127-metre long, 16-metre wide and (estimated) value of 500 million dollars. Only the legendary Sailing Yacht A – designed by Philippe Starck for the Russian tycoon Andrey Igorevich Melnichenk – surpasses it in the world for length. In any case Koru is a jewel that requires a crew of 40 sailors and has an annual operating cost of 25 million dollars. Gossip reports that on board the yacht, Bezos asked Lauren Sánchez, a journalist and his partner of about five years, to marry him. The couple were together at the Cannes Film Festival for the film’s premiere Killers of the Flower Moon, manufactured by Apple. Koru (‘new beginnings’ in the Maori language) needed a tender up to par and the good Bezos wasted no time: in the waters of the Mediterranean, we saw Abeon which with its 75 meters of overall length should be considered the largest support yacht ever built.
THE WEIGHT OF SANCHEZ

For the super tender, Bezos has chosen an important name: Abeona la Romanian girl protector of departures, of children who leave their parents’ home for the first time or who take their first steps. She was built by Damen Yachting, a shipyard in Vlissingen, the Netherlands, after signing a contract with Bezos in 2019, according to the Luxurylaunches portal. It seems that one of the reasons for the tycoon’s choice – if not the main one – was to please Laura Sanchez who shares his passion for flying. Bezos wants to go into space, with her Blue Origin – her biggest commitment after leaving the Amazon CEO chair in 2021 – she prefers the sky instead, being a helicopter pilot. Koru, though bigger, doesn’t have a landing pad for her Airbus Ach-135 while Abeona has one, of good size, at the stern.
SUPERCAR ON BOARD

With a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, Abeona certainly does not have the purpose of ‘sailing’ on a long-range cruise: in fact, the two MTUs push her to 18 knots, sufficient to follow the sailing superyacht. Her task is that of a giant floating garage where – beyond the helicopter platform – Bezos has stowed a whole series of conveniences and gadgets for his pleasure and that of those aboard Koru: there are supercars (perhaps the Bugatti Veyron and the McLaren F1 which are in his fleet, along with a vintage 1960s Volkswagen campervan), smaller motor boats, jet skis. In short, a little jewel: perhaps the only detail that is missing – or at least it hasn’t been revealed – is a tribute to Mrs. Sanchez. A wooden figurehead has been installed on Koru that looks exactly like the owner’s future wife.
