Abdala Vaccine: Its effectiveness, “an act of faith”

Dr. Xavier Tello, a specialist in health policies, warns about the risks of applying the Abdala vaccine, patented in Cuba, in Mexico. He points out that, as there are no trials of its application or endorsement by international scientific journals, it is possible that the biological one simply does not work, with which millions of children would be left unprotected. And he adds: “Believing in the effectiveness of Abdala constitutes a true act of faith.”

MEXICO CITY (Process).- The decision of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to import the Cuban Abdala vaccine against covid-19 to apply it to minors in Mexico, is generating protests in the health union, where they warn that the The main disadvantage of this biological is that its effectiveness has not been demonstrated, hence its purchase is unnecessary.

Although the Cuban government already applies it on the island, they point out that Abdala does not have the endorsement of the international scientific community in terms of “efficacy” and “safety”, so there is a high risk that it simply will not work and then millions of Mexican children are left without protection.

Xavier Tello, a specialist in health policies, launches the alert: “If the Abdala vaccine is applied here, we run the risk that it will not work, and with this we will leave the millions of children to whom it is planned to be applied unprotected. The greatest danger of any vaccine is that it does not work.

“So far there is no clinical information that demonstrates the efficacy and safety of this vaccine. And that must be perfectly documented. But the Cuban government does not want its biology to be reviewed by the international scientific community, to leave it settled in specialized journals. There is none of that!”

–But the Cuban government affirms that its vaccine is 92.2% effective…

–You can say what you want, it has up to 100% effectiveness. Marvelous! Well, then, submit it to scientific review by international peers. But it doesn’t. The Cuban Ministry of Health gave itself its own authorization to use Abdala. It claims to have its efficacy results, with which they try to convince countries that, like Mexico, are interested in the biological one.

“Perhaps Cuba does not want its vaccine to be examined because it is very bad, or because of a political issue related to its refusal to submit to the imperialism of scientific journals and things like that. I do not know. So believing in Abdala’s effectiveness is a true act of faith.”
