Aaron Rodgers Admits Struggles as Steelers Suffer Third Loss in Four Games
Pittsburgh, PA – Aaron Rodgers acknowledged a subpar performance Sunday night as the Pittsburgh Steelers fell too a 22-3 defeat, marking their third loss in the last four weeks and tightening the AFC North race. Rodgers completed 16 of 31 passes, his lowest completion percentage in five seasons, and threw two interceptions while being sacked three times.
The Steelers’ offensive struggles, compounded by missed opportunities and penalties, leave them with a one-game lead over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North. The loss raises concerns about the team’s ability to maintain its division lead as the season progresses. Despite the disappointing result, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin expressed continued confidence in his team’s ability to rebound.
Rodgers’ night included a 19-yard connection with DK Metcalf, a 15-yard completion to Darnell Washington, and a 9-yard gain to Pat Freiermuth. However, drives stalled due to a holding penalty on rookie offensive lineman kingsley Fautanu and an overturned catch by Jonnu Smith. Chris Boswell subsequently missed a 45-yard field goal attempt.
In the fourth quarter, a turnover on downs occurred when Rodgers attempted a forced throw to Metcalf in the end zone on fourth down. The pass was knocked down, leading to a 90-yard touchdown drive by the Chargers, effectively sealing the Steelers’ fate.
“I probably should have thrown it the other side,” Rodgers said, reflecting on the fourth-down attempt. “He was doubled. I should have thrown it more back shoulder or maybe work the other side.”
Despite the offensive woes, Tomlin remained resolute.”I’m not lacking confidence,” he stated. “I don’t need a pat on the back. We stunk it up tonight. we’ll be back.”
