Brentwood, England – Aaron Hill of Cork, Ireland, stunned veteran Ali Carter 4-3 in the fourth round of the BetVictor English Open on Wednesday, despite Carter producing a 147 break during the match. The victory sends 23-year-old Hill into the last 16 of the tournament.
Hill, currently ranked 45th, rallied from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Carter, who has four career maximum breaks to his name. The pair will share the prize money associated with achieving a 147. “Ali’s after nicking a few quid off me there,” Hill joked to WST social media. “I said when he made the max, the only thing that can justify it is if I win the match. And luckily I did. I stuck in there from 3-1 behind.” This result is notably notable as Hill himself recorded a 147 earlier in the competition.
Elsewhere in the tournament, Jack Lisowski advanced after a 4-1 win over world champion Zhao Xintong. Mark Allen narrowly defeated Stuart Bingham 4-3 and will face Ding Junhui in the next round. Judd trump overcame Yuan Sijun 4-1, setting up a match against Elliot Slessor.
