Shortly after Aaron Carter’s death, it was announced that his memoir would be published within a week. Too quick and disrespectful, according to his management and ex Hilary Duff. It would also contain incorrect information. The release date has now been delayed. What’s going on with the book about the artist who passed away earlier this month at the age of 34?
Carter was found dead in the bathtub of his home in Lancaster, California on November 5, 2022. It is still unclear how he met his end.
The book Aaron Carter: An Incomplete Story of an Incomplete Life would appear earlier than expected on Tuesday. The book was written by Andy Symonds, who has spoken to Carter on several occasions. The two spoke about Carter’s troubled relationship with her older brother, Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter, his drug problems and mental health struggles.
The memoirs did not end at the time of his death. “Aaron was an open book throughout the writing process,” Symonds said in a statement. “It’s tragic that his autobiography will never contain all of his stories, thoughts and dreams.”
Actress and singer Hilary Duff reacted furiously on Friday at the release of her former partner’s unfinished autobiography. The two met in 2000 on the set of the TV series Lizzy McGuire and was in an on and off relationship for three years. The book states that Carter and Duff lost their virginity to each other when they were twelve and thirteen. According to Duff, this is not true. She calls it “sad” that the book will be out within a week of her death. “The publisher seems to want to recklessly profit from this tragedy. Without taking the time to check her work,” the actress said.
Carter’s management is also not happy with the book. “We would like to thank Hilary Duff for her comments,” manager Taylor Helgeson said in a statement to the New York Post. Mentions the memoir and other new releases, including the album Blacklisted and a single Lately, “obscene, disrespectful and unlawful”. The album wasn’t supposed to be released until December 7, but the producers decided to release it early one day after his death.
“This is a time for mourning and reflection, not for ruthless earnings and attention-seeking,” the statement concluded. They ask those responsible “not to release further content without the consent of his family, friends and collaborators”.
On Sunday, Symonds’ attorney said it was “out of respect for Carter’s family” that the decision was made to delay publication of the memoir. “Public attention is now focused on a small number of experiences from Carter’s early years,” the statement read, likely referring to Duff’s criticisms. “Her life story is much more important.”
The new publication date of the book has not yet been announced.
