The British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca has developed a coronavirus vaccine in collaboration with Oxford University. Its testing is currently underway, in which volunteers are involved. One of them was the Brazilian physician João Pedro R. Feitosa.
As the portal informed bbc.co.uk, The 28-year-old doctor also contracted coronavirus and died. According to the company’s report, he was not part of the experimental group that received the vaccine injection, nor was he given placebo, an ineffective drug. This is commonly used in testing to see if the drug is actually working.
It is not known where the doctor became infected, but since the outbreak of the pandemic he has been helping those infected in intensive care units at two hospitals in Rio de Janeiro. Covid-19 caused serious health complications for him, he died on October 15.
AstraZeneca is hiding exactly how Feitosa was involved in the testing. Apart from confirming his death and claiming that he had followed all security procedures, she did not provide any further information on the case.
Its vaccine is already being dealt with by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which is currently being reviewed. The European Union has signed a future supply agreement with the company.
