A young adult seriously injured in a collision in Estrie

A young driver suffered serious injuries in a head-on collision with a second vehicle after he possibly lost control on a downward slope in Racine, northwest of Sherbrooke, Sunday afternoon.

The young man was alone in his small vehicle. A man in his 50s was in the SUV. The latter was transported to a hospital for minor injuries, said the Sûreté du Québec.

It was around 3:50 p.m. that the emergency services were called to attend the scene.

The young man, whose age was not specified, was found imprisoned in his vehicle, heavily damaged. Extrication clips must have been used to pull him out.

The collision took place on Chemin du Grand-Brompton.

If the injuries are serious, the SQ said it was too early to know if the accident victim’s life was in danger.

According to preliminary information from the SQ, the young man lost control of his vehicle while driving on a downward slope. The slippery pavement linked to the snowfall on Saturday could have played a role in the accident.
