While sorting garbage at home, a woman stumbled upon a diamond. According to expert estimates, it turned out to cost 2.7 million dollars, thegoaspotlight.com reported.
The 34-carat gem will be sold at auction in London, the BBC reported. A Northumberland resident was cleaning her home when she came across a shiny round stone the size of a coin. She confused him with a simple piece of jewelry and almost threw away the find. On the advice of a neighbor, however, the woman, who chose to remain anonymous, decided to take the “thing” to the jeweler along with other things accumulated during the years of touring the flea markets.
“A woman came to us with a jewelry bag, had a job in town, and decided to stop by,” recalls Mark Lane, an employee of Featonby’s Auctioneers. “It was quite a large stone, bigger than a pound coin, at first I thought it was cubic zirconia, the twin of a synthetic diamond. We sent it to our partners in London, after which it was certified by experts in Antwerp, who confirmed that it is a 34 carat diamond. “
Measurement in carats is related to the weight of the stone: heavier diamonds have a higher value.
Auctioneer Mark Lane says the valuation of the gem was a shock to him. According to him, this is the most expensive diamond he has ever held in his hands. “Color, purity, size … finding a 34 carat diamond is unusual,” he was quoted as saying by Nova TV.
According to the expert, the owner of the diamond does not remember where this stone comes from. “She often went to flea markets and bought all kinds of rubbish. She never thought it could be a diamond,” said Mark Lane. The gem will be sold at auction on November 30 in London.
