A trio of linear villas semi-buried on the Greek island of Karpathos envisioned by A&M Architects.

Nestled atop a pristine Greek island, A&M architects have envisioned a stunning visual of three linear villas that are semi-buried into the landscape. Dubbed as “The Linear House,” this innovative architectural project blends seamlessly into the island’s terrain and is highlighted by a host of eco-friendly features. Karpathos, steeped in myth and history, is home to several breathtaking landscapes, and this concept is sure to capture the imagination of anyone looking to settle into an eco-friendly paradise.

A&M Architects has created an awe-inspiring villa design in the beautiful locale of Menetes village in Karpathos, Greece. The Villa design incorporates three magnificent villas built partially underground and designed to blend seamlessly into the natural topography of the site. The 12,000 square meter site provides guests with privacy and seclusion, offering unobstructed views of the beautiful Aegean Sea.

The villas’ design, arranged amphitheatrically, symbolizes the true union between indoors and outdoors while respecting the natural textures of the site. The villas overlook the picturesque landscape while also offering a balance of privacy and seclusion to guests. The 23% slope of the site is used cleverly, ensuring that each villa emerges from the surrounding landscape as if it is part of it. The villas are minimalist, with simple geometries allowing for the stunning views to be the focus of this journey.

The A&M Architects team emphasized the importance of marrying the natural and the built environment in this project. The villas’ white, clean ribbons act as retaining walls, creating the only contrast between the artificial and the natural, while natural finishes such as stone, wood, and white cement dress up the room, adding an authentic character to the interior spaces.

The interior spaces of each villa are linearly organized to have direct access to outdoor areas. The large openings allow sunlight to penetrate unconstructively throughout each space, creating a seamless integration between the villas’ indoor and outdoor areas. Each villa also possesses a unique feature, a pool, that penetrates parts of the interior space, making for a unique swimming experience.

One of the key design elements of the Sheltered Villas is the focus on achieving the least possible topography manipulation while taking advantage of the natural heating and cooling benefits of a semi-underground structure. The natural and sustainable design not only helps the environment but also enhances the guest experience in these beautiful accommodations.

The Sheltered Villas by A&M Architects is a truly idyllic location for anyone to visit. The gorgeous scenery combined with the villas’ stunning design makes for the perfect respite from everyday life. Every part of the Sheltered Villas’ design is intentional, with each element adding a unique charm to the overall experience. The minimalist design allows the focus to remain on the natural beauty of the surrounding area, ensuring guests have a peaceful and relaxing stay in the Greek countryside.
