A third of Ukrainians have antibodies to COVID – research

Ukrainians are tested for antibodies to coronavirus

The first data of a large-scale study on the presence of antibodies to coronavirus in the inhabitants of Ukraine became known.

A third of Ukrainians already have antibodies to coronavirus, said on Tuesday, July 6, the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Health, Medical Assistance and Health Insurance, “servant of the people” Mikhail Radutsky in Facebook.

The deputy published such data, referring to the preliminary results of a study conducted by the Ministry of Health, the Center for Public Health, the World Bank and the Yaremenko Ukrainian Institute for Social Research.

“During July, a group of sociologists and medical workers visits Ukrainian households. The former conduct surveys, and the latter, free testing for antibodies,” Radutsky said.

According to him, a survey of six thousand people showed that 33% of them have a certain immunity to COVID-19.

Further, the head of the committee informed, experts will determine how antibodies were formed in human organisms. And here, he stressed, it is important to determine whether a significant proportion of those who had been ill in a mild form and did not even know that they were infected.

The final data from the study, which are important for predicting the next wave of the pandemic, will be released at the end of August, Radutsky announced.

As reported, the situation with the spread of coronavirus in Ukraine may get worse already in late July or early August due to the Delta strain, which is rapidly spreading in Europe.
