A tart burnt at a neighbor’s house is believed to be the cause of the fire at La boulangerie de Marlène in Chartres

An Alsatian tart, of the flamekueche type, which burned in an oven, would be at the origin of the fire in this business on May 2 (our previous editions).
Departmental security investigators determined that the disaster occurred in an apartment located above the sign. According to the investigations, the tenant of this accommodation would have put the Alsatian tart directly in his oven, without removing it from its packaging …

The attic ravaged by flames

The tenant would then have noticed the presence of flames and sprayed the oven with water. But the fire spread, triggering a rescue chain of more than sixty people. Two tenants, including the man, were poisoned by the smoke.
The attic was ravaged by flames, which devastated part of the framework of the bakery. The establishment was saved and spread to other buildings in this historic district was avoided. This accidental fire wiped out the investment of three years of labor by the baker, Marlène Boehm. Bought in August 2018, the store began to establish its notoriety, rewarded, in March, by the departmental prize for the best bakery in France, on M6. The fire caused extensive damage, including soot and water.

Marlène’s bakery, affected by a fire, could reopen in September in Chartres

The great uncertainty, for the baker, lay in the solidity of the structure. The experts, who came last Thursday, reassured the operator. The building will not be destroyed and will not need any in-depth work. Nevertheless, the duration of the work should be around four months. A reopening of the business is scheduled for September. The thirteen employees have been on technical unemployment since May 2. For the moment, the roof has been covered and part of the frame has been consolidated. Marlène Boehm plans to invest in a new bread oven.
