The Flemish Nationalist Party singularly points to the MR and its president Georges-Louis Bouchez. “Above all, he wants to keep (liberal) Prime Minister Sophie Wilmès in the saddle,” they say among the Flemish nationalists. In the morning, the liberals and ecologists split a joint statement in which they reject the institutional component proposed by the preformers Bart De Wever (N-VA) and Paul Magnette (PS). The two political families also say they refuse to “take part in an escalation that pits them against each other”.
At the N-VA, this exit goes badly and the critics singularly target the MR. Georges-Louis Bouchez is thus seen as “a spider on his web” especially wanting “to keep Sophie Wilmès in the saddle”. “It is now clear that the Vivaldi is alive again”, they say “off the record” among the Flemish nationalists.
This coalition, without the N-VA, had been tested for a time by the president of the PS Paul Magnette at the end of 2019, during his first mission as a royal informant. It would bring together socialists, liberals, ecologists and the Flemish Christian Democrats of the CD&V.
Charged with royal missions since July 20, preformers Bart De Wever (N-VA) and Paul Magnette (PS) have managed to form a “bubble of five” parties willing to start discussions with a view to forming a new federal government. This bubble includes the PS, the sp.a, the N-VA, the CD&V and the cdH. However, it only has 69 seats out of the 150 in the House. The support of at least one additional party is therefore necessary and the preformers have increased their contacts with the liberals and environmentalists.
Bart De Wever has never made it a secret, he wants to do without the French-speaking liberals. “Nobody wants the MR any more,” he said on July 31. But the liberal family, with the Open Vld, has always been united.
On the side of the Flemish socialists of the sp.a, it is also estimated Thursday that the objective of the MR is to perpetuate the current government led by Sophie Wilmès.
