The InSight spacecraft has recorded three major earthquakes on Mars in the last month. He was sent to the red planet by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The tremors reached a magnitude of up to four degrees on the Richter scale. Due to one of them, the surface shook for about an hour and a half.
NASA obtained data on seismic activity on Mars thanks to the successful removal of dust from the vehicle’s solar panel. This was the probe’s ability to keep the seismometer active. The red planet has shaken three times in the last month.
“On August 25, a seismograph detected the first two earthquakes measuring 4.2 and 4.1 on the Richter scale,” NASA reported Wednesday. According to experts, a stronger earthquake appeared about 8,500 kilometers from the InSight spacecraft.
These were the most distant shocks the probe had detected. The two earthquakes were different. “The 4.2-degree tremors were slow, they were less frequent tremors. In contrast, the second earthquake was characterized by rapid tremors with a frequent frequency,” the experts added.
The longest earthquake on Mars took place on September 18, and the tremors reached a magnitude of 4.2 on the Richter scale. In addition, they lasted about 90 minutes. Experts are now finding out more information.
