A small diving device hits the wreck of the Titanic

A small diving vehicle carrying two people would have struck the wreck of the Titanic, a famous liner deemed unsinkable but yet failed during its inaugural voyage in April 1912. The collision with the diving vessel would have occurred between July 29 and August 4 last but the information is only disseminated today, said Friday the Washington Post. A powerful and unexpected current is believed to be the cause of the accident.

RMS Titanic Inc. (RMST) requested video images of the incident. According to the Washington Post, the RMST has the exclusive right to extract objects from the wreckage. She criticizes the diving expedition to the British company EYOS Expeditions and the American meteorological and oceanographic agency (NOAA) for not having informed her. EYOS defends itself by claiming that it is only a slight collision.

The Titanic sank in the night of April 14 to 15, 1912 during its maiden voyage which was to bring it from Southampton (England) to New York (United States), after having struck an iceberg. About 1,500 of the 2,000 people on board died. The wreckage was located in 1985 at more than 3,800m deep, hundreds of kilometers southeast of the Canadian province of Newfoundland.

Last year it became apparent that parts of the wreck were in danger of crumbling. According to the Washington Post, the RMST wants to recover the telegraph that was used to send the emergency signal at the time. But she should have part of the hull opened, which NOAA does not allow her to do.
