Champ and Major, that’s how the new ones are called First Dogs of America. Champ is twelve years old, Major has only been with the Biden family for two years.

These are German shepherds. Champ is sometimes nicknamed “Biden senior” by Biden’s grandchildren. Major comes from the shelter, where he was taken care of as a puppy after the litter had been fed poisonous food. He thus becomes the first shelter dog ever to move into the White House.
With the dogs a tradition is being restored: almost all presidents had at least one dog, or else at least a cat or a parrot. Donald Trump had no pets at all. Only James Polk (1845-1849) did without it before.
