A seriously injured person in a traffic accident in Bern
On Monday evening, a traffic accident involving two cars occurred in the city of Bern. One of the vehicles came to rest on its side. A man was seriously injured and taken to the hospital by ambulance. An investigation has been launched.
The Bern cantonal police were alerted on Monday, August 8, 2022, shortly after 8:05 p.m. because of a traffic accident involving two cars that had occurred on Breitfeldstrasse in Bern.
According to previous knowledge, the first car drove on Rütlistrasse in the direction of Winkelriedstrasse, while a second car was driving on Breitfeldstrasse in the direction of Stauffacherstrasse. At the intersection of Rütlistrasse and Breitfeldstrasse, there was a side-frontal collision between the two vehicles. The force of the impact caused the first car to spin 180 degrees and land on its right side. The driver of this vehicle was seriously injured. First, he was cared for by third parties, then medically treated by an ambulance team that was called out immediately and taken to the hospital in critical condition.
In order to enable the rescue services to be deployed on site, the affected area of Breitfeldstrasse was completely closed to traffic for around four hours. The professional fire brigade in Bern regulated the traffic and secured the vehicle, which had tipped on its side.
The Bern cantonal police have launched an investigation to clarify the causes and circumstances of the accident.
