CD Projekt heads towards the future.
Not long ago, when Cyberpunk 2077 after a terrible storm, we dared to ask ourselves if CD project he was not going through a fatal period for his notoriety. But today we must recognize that the winds have changed. Yes, because the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series gave oxygen to the bronchi of Cyberpunk 2077 (who exceeded 20 million copies sold), but also and above all because CD Projekt never gave up.
However, given the crisis experienced by the Polish studio and the announcement of the new trilogy The sorcerer, developed on Unreal Engine 5, we imagined that the lid would be well placed on the Cyberpunk license after the release of the now official narrative DLC. But again, it was wrong as Cyberpunk is far from being advertised. Really very far …
In fact, while CD Projekt explained his plans for the future, it is the name of the “Project Orion” that appeared. And more than a giant hunter of mythology or a constellation, Orion is the development code name of a “sequel” to the Cyberpunk universe. In the hands of CD Projekt Red North America (opening in Boston), the latter will have the mission to “demonstrate the full power and potential of the Cyberpunk universe”. But we will have to be patient as always, because development will only begin after the advent of the Phantom Liberty expansion.
‘Our projects are certainly ambitious and require a lot of work, dedication and growth “
“That’s why we are creating a new team in Boston, which together with the expanding team in Vancouver will form our new studio: CD Projekt Red North America. This will allow us to take full advantage of the North American talent pool. “
Ambitions in the background as explained by the vice president and chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz, CD Projekt will not stop there and will rely on other satellite studios. And already the bearer of a new trilogy, it is The Witcher license that will also give life to new projects. Because apparently, beyond the three canonical episodes to come (which CD Projekt aims to release in a time window of six years after the release of the first volume), a certain “Sirius Project” will aim to appeal to a more ample. Fruit of the work of The Molasses Flood, acquired by CD Projekt last year, this work will be based on a single player experience but also on multiplayer.
And since the day was visibly opulent, the “Project Canis Majoris” will also be present. A project developed by the former The Witcher that will be the first game in the saga developed outside the group (think Rebel Wolves). But as Adam Kiciński, President and CEO explains, it will still be a high-level game:
‘… This does not mean that its quality will be lower than our in-house productions. From the technological point of view it will be based on the Unreal Engine 5, as well as on the tools created for Polaris (note: codename of the first opus of the new The Witcher trilogy). Expect new announcements soon. “
And speaking of new announcements, because obviously that wasn’t enough, CD Projekt also explained that there is more to life than The Witcher and Cyberpunk. This is why “Project Hadar” marks the beginning of work on a new license for the Polish studio, which therefore has great ambitions for the next few years.
