Park Avenue Armory ⁤to Host north American Premiere of Ariane mnouchkine’s Epic New Work, A Room in India

New York, NY – The Park Avenue Armory will present the ⁢North American premiere of A Room in India, the latest production from‌ renowned French theater⁤ director Ariane Mnouchkine and her company, Théâtre du Soleil. Following ⁣a celebrated⁢ 2009 engagement with ⁤ The Ephemerals, ‍Mnouchkine returns with this landmark work, which follows a ⁢French theater troupe⁣ unexpectedly stranded in India ⁣amidst global upheaval.

Performed by a cast of 35 multinational actors, A Room in India is a sweeping, multi-lingual production that blends Eastern and Western theatrical traditions, including a special performance of Terukkuttu, a conventional South Indian theater⁢ form. The play directly addresses critical contemporary issues-terrorism, religious extremism,⁤ climate change, and gender equality-and ultimately⁣ serves as both ‍a testament to the⁢ unifying power of theater and an investigation into articulating the complexities of a chaotic world.

Performances will be held on select evenings at 7:00pm. The performance is approximately 3⁤ hours and 35 minutes long, including a 20-minute intermission.‌ The production will be performed in French,‌ English, Tamil, Arabic, Japanese, and Russian, ⁢with English supertitles provided throughout.
