Geneva (ANTARA) – The World Health Organization (WHO) on Sunday reported a record global spike in daily cases of COVID-19, namely 307,930 cases in 24 hours.
The biggest spikes were in India, the United States and Brazil, according to the WHO website. Deaths from COVID-19 increased by 5,537 to 917,417 deaths.
India recorded 94,372 new cases of COVID-19, followed by the US with 45,523 cases and Brazil with 43,718 cases.
The US and India have each reported new COVID-19 deaths over 1,000. Meanwhile Brazil confirmed 874 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The previous WHO record of new COVID-19 cases was 306,857 as of 6 September. The UN agency also reported a record 12,430 COVID-19 deaths as of April 17.
The corona pandemic has resulted in a contraction in economic growth around the world. The tourism sector has been the worst hit by the global health tragedy.
A number of large countries such as the United States, Russia, Britain, China and Germany are racing to find a corona vaccine. Russian President Vladimir Putin claims that his country was the first to give approval to the discovery of a corona vaccine but a number of countries have doubts about the safety and efficacy of the vaccine, named Sputnik V.
Until now, WHO has not announced a single corona vaccine that is considered suitable for use as an antidote to COVID-19.
