A rare phenomenon, Earth is called tomorrow’s micro full moon

Jakarta, CNNI Indonesia

Phenomenon Micro full moon, which has only taken place twice this year, will take place tomorrow, Saturday (7/1). Check the details of the time and distance from Land.

As quoted by the National Research and Innovation Agency’s (BRIN) Aeronautics and Space Research Organization Instagram account, @lapan_ri, this phenomenon occurred twice during 2023.

First, January 7, 2023 at 06.08 WIB / 07.08 WITA / 08.08 WIT (34.2 hours before apogee / furthest distance from Earth) at a distance of 405.789 Km.

Second, February 6, 2023 at 01.29 WIB / 02.29 WITA / 03.29 WIT (33.6 hours after apogee) at a distance of 405.830 Km.

What is a Micro Full Moon?

Quoted from the LAPAN Space Science Education website, a Micro Full Moon or Micro Full Moon is a phase of a full moon that coincides with the Apogee, i.e. the condition in which the Moon reaches its furthest distance from the Earth.

Quoted from detik comin a year, there are 0 to 3 micro full moons, with only 0 to 1 full moon being true micro full moons.

According to Fred Espenak, a NASA astrophysicist, the relative distance of the full moon is 90% greater than the distance of the moon at apogee. This is because the time of the astronomical full moon is not that far from apogee.

Thus, the difference in the time of occurrence of an astronomical full moon should be no more than 81 hours from Apog.

Wolf Moon

In addition to the micro full moon, the Antarctic Science Education website LAPAN reveals that the full moon phenomenon in January also has the name Wolf Moon. This appellation refers to a pack of wolves howling hungry outside the village.

The name Wolf Moon also refers to the full moon that occurred after Yule/Saturnalia or winter solstice, so Native Americans stayed home.

In addition to the Wolf Moon, this January’s celestial phenomena names include:

  • Moon after Yule/Saturnalia (Moon after Yule)
  • Old Moon (Old Moon)
  • Bulan Es (Ice Moon)
  • Acute Moon (Severe Moon)
  • Bulan Berdiam (Stay at Home/Quiet Moon).
