A prestigious gallery in New York traces the career of Pierre Soulages in an exhibition

Until June 6, the Opera gallery is honoring the Aveyron painter by exhibiting paintings from his various artistic periods, from the post-war period to the present day.

The Opera Gallery in New York, on the prestigious Madison Avenue, just a few meters from Central Park, but above all in a very popular area of the American city, is offering an exhibition dedicated to Pierre Soulages until June 6.

The gallery has decided, for a few days, to highlight a curated selection of important paintings by the artist, allowing us to trace his work from the post-war period to the present day. “We invite visitors to immerse themselves in the universe of Pierre Soulages, where a myriad of influences culminate in an instinctive, radical and immersive work, writes the gallery on its website. Soulages approaches each new painting as the advancement of his research on depth and light, thus giving substance to the unreal and unique light that emanates from each one.”

A dozen works are therefore offered to New Yorkers, very keen on the painter’s work, including a very recent Outrenoir, from 2018 (photo), but also a painting from 1959, the artist’s most popular period. The three most expensive paintings by Pierre Soulages sold at auctionwait for this time.
