In the Vratsa village of Rakevo, Yuri Katsarski, nominated by an initiative committee, was elected mayor. He won by a huge margin over his opponent Yancho Petrov of the BSP for Bulgaria. 316 votes were cast for Katsarski by 379 people in the village, and only 59 for Petrov, the election commission announced.

A total of 690 people had the right to vote in Rakevo today, of which 379 people exercised their constitutional right. According to the MEC in Krivodol, the voting went normally and no violations were found. Early mayoral elections in Rakevo were scheduled due to the untimely death of Malin Tonchev. The mayor died of complications after suffering a convulsion.

Yuri Katsarski is a former MRF secretary in Krivodol, from which he was expelled after the 2017 parliamentary elections, when the structure garnered only 20 votes in the 14 settlements in the municipality. Then Katsarski joined GERB, but later left this party as well.

Prior to that, he was chairman of the municipal council in Krivodol, deputy mayor and even acting mayor of Krivodol. His entire career has been associated with scandals related mainly to the absorption of European money.
