A policeman slaps a young man who refuses to put on a mask in Flanders, an open investigation (video)

LThe public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into the arrest on Saturday afternoon of a young person in a skatepark in Roeselare in West Flanders, we learned on Sunday. The youngster, who was not wearing a mask, received pepper spray in his face. An internal investigation was also opened on the police officer.

A young man was called to order by a police officer on Saturday afternoon in Roeselare because he was not wearing a mouth mask. He provoked the policeman who then challenged him in a muscular manner. Passers-by videotaped the operation in which the officer sprayed the boy with pepper spray and slapped him.

“A report has been drawn up and we are going to open an investigation into the facts,” said the Courtrai prosecutor’s office. “An internal disciplinary investigation is also opened concerning the behavior of the agent.”

“After viewing the images, I contacted the chief of staff to set up an objective investigation,” reacted the mayor of Roeselare, Kris Declercq (CD&V). “I will follow the case closely. I want to call on everyone to respect each other in these difficult times. Violence and breaking the rules will always be unacceptable. The fight against corona will only work together, ”he stressed.
