Schwarzenfeld. In the heart of New York City, locals and tourists from all over the world have recently been looking at a new high-rise, the facade of which is embellished with dark ceramic tiles. What very few people know: Without a company from the Schwandorf district, the building might look very different.
The Schwarzenfeld Buchtal plant produced a total of around 4600 square meters of ceramic facade tiles for the more than 60 meter high building with 19 floors and 111 luxury apartments on New York’s Broadway. Press spokesman Werner Ziegelmeier tells the Middle Bavarian that the company is always proud when its products are in demand around the world.
New high-rise next to old industrial buildings
As Buchtal reports, the high-rise has a finely structured facade with large windows. The architect demanded that the color, texture and glaze of the tiles should combine to create a varied play of light and shadow. The new building in Tribeca, a district of Manhattan, is to be adapted to the existing old industrial buildings. Particularly the aesthetic qualities were important to the client when choosing ceramics for the facade, explains Ziegelmeier.
Access to the luxury apartments is not visible from Broadway. Only the shops on the ground floor stand out. In order to give the residents peace and quiet, the architect placed the entrance in the side street “91 Leonard”. There a path leads from the narrow two-story entrance building into a lobby with an inner courtyard. Anyone who owns one of the apartments with a size between 50 and 250 square meters can also use communal facilities such as a cinema, fitness studio or wellness area.
Customers on all continents
Ceramics and tiles from Schwarzenfeld are not only in demand in America. The company has also produced tiles for the exterior of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow and for a building in Helsinki. In total, Buchtal delivers to more than 100 countries worldwide.
