Many delays, some of more than two hours, occurred on arrival and departure from the Gare de Lyon this Sunday evening.

The circulation of dozens of trains – TGV, intercity, RER D – was disrupted due to a “personal accident” which occurred at Maisons-Alfort station, south-east of Paris, we learned from the SNCF.

A fatal accident

“There was a personal accident at Maisons-Alfort station at 6:35 p.m. A person was hit by a train,” said an SNCF spokesperson.

This fatal accident took place near Maisons-Alfort, when a Ouigo train entered the station. Traffic was immediately interrupted at this station and the emergency services mobilized, as well as the judicial authorities. The funeral directors arrived at the scene around 9:30 p.m.

Towards a gradual recovery in traffic

This accident resulted in “blocking all traffic coming from the south towards the Gare de Lyon”, said the spokesperson. “Dozens of trains, TGV, Intercités, TER and RER D, were affected and traffic only resumed very gradually in the evening,” he added.

A first TGV was able to enter Gare de Lyon around 8:40 p.m., while traffic had gradually resumed around 8:00 p.m. on the TER and Intercités. On line D of the RER, traffic has resumed, with the exception of the Villeneuve-Saint-Georges-Gare de Lyon section.

“Traffic has resumed and the delays are gradually being reduced. As it is Sunday evening, there were a lot of people and the trains had to pass one after the other, ”we explained. Traffic should return to normal by late evening.
