Elkan Baggott has undergone his first joint training Indonesian National team as an Indonesian Citizen (WNI) at Madya Stadium, Jakarta, Wednesday (10/11/2021).
The 19-year-old young player immediately underwent full training with his other colleagues. Special material for defenders passed quite well with other players who were in the same position as him.
In the defensive training scheme, Elkan was immediately placed in the team that was projected to be the main team. The material to welcome the ball up to provide the back pass was successfully executed.
Due to his towering physique, Elkan can do well to block high balls in defensive practice. Every now and then he seems to have a friendly conversation with the left back of the Indonesian national team Pratama Arhan. The players who both fill the back line have indeed played together in the U-19 Indonesian National Team.
In the internal game, players born in 2002 also stand out. He managed to take advantage of his physical superiority well to cover the movement of offensive players from the opposing camp.
There is no awkward feeling even though there are many other senior players in the team. Call it Victor Igbonefo who is also his duet partner in training for defenders.
“There is no problem (language barrier), some colleagues speak English. There is also a coaching team who immediately translates Korean to English. It’s okay,” said Elkan Baggott after training.
In general, he said he was happy to be able to strengthen the Indonesian national team. Even though it means he is throwing away the opportunity to strengthen the England or Thailand national team in the future.
“I want to thank my team-mates and fans who have always supported me all this time. I am very impressed compared to England, where there are so many fans who give love. This experience has been crazy. I really appreciate being able to come to this club. here,” said Elkan.
Elkan has officially become an Indonesian citizen since Tuesday (9/11). Elkan has pocketed an Identity Card (KTP) after taking care of the process at the Office of the Directorate General of Dukcapil, Ministry of Home Affairs.
In fact, Elkan had already strengthened the Indonesian national team for the age group in mid-2020. It’s just that at that time his position was not yet an Indonesian citizen.
