A painful picture.. A Lebanese man mortgaged his car to receive his son’s body from the hospital

Holding the body of his newborn boy, wrapped in a blue cloth, in his hands, the father, Hussein Al-Baarini, walked back to his home in the town of Fnaideq in Akkar, north Lebanon, after being forced to mortgage his car in exchange for removing his dead son’s body inside Akkar hospital.

Bring your son’s body

Like wildfire, her son’s image spread on social media carrying the child’s body and walking with him from the hospital to the public road, after which she took a taxi and brought it back to Fneideq.

The interlocutors expressed their anger at how far the crisis had reached Lebanon, to the point that a father mortgaged his car to take his son’s body from the hospital, due to his inability to pay the costs.

mortgage his car

Anguished, Father Hussein Al-Baarini told Al-Arabiya.net, “After the hospital informed me that my son had died, the accountant demanded $2,400 from me in exchange for a doctor. The hospital that we came across in the forecourt also appraised (priced) the car.

The baby was born in the hospital about 25 days ago, and after birth was placed in an incubator: his father, who works as a guardian at a school in Akkar, was forced to mortgage his sister’s son’s car because he didn’t have the money needed to remove his son’s body.

I had no money

He said: “I received my son’s body after mortgaging the car and depositing the $400 I had with me, and walked to the main road. I couldn’t get a cab because I didn’t have any more money. I I walked two kilometers to the house, and later we completed his burial ceremony.”

Even if I sell my kidney

Ardently, Hussein al-Bareini, a father of three, said: “The world honored me, but I got my son’s body. I just wanted to get it back, even if it cost me to sell my kidney.”

He added: “No one is at ease in Lebanon except the corrupt and the thieves. The crisis that is ravaging the country affects everyone except the thieves and the corrupt.”

He called on the Ministry of Health and the people concerned to open a transparent investigation into his son’s case to hold those responsible accountable.

And the administration of the Khalaf Al Habtoor hospital in Akkar had clarified in press releases: “As soon as she learned of the matter, she called her father twice asking him to come and collect her car, and reported the incident, emphasizing that it was not her habit, and she had always stood by the people of the region, even if the employee had informed the administration of the matter.” I recommend making the appropriate decision towards her.

Since 2019, Lebanon has entered an economic and financial crisis that is the worst in decades, as a World Bank report states, due to the collapse of the local currency, which was reflected in a rise in prices in most sectors .
